Business liability insurance in your name is required before you perform a TechDash: general liability, errors and omissions, and cyber coverage, with the limits in the contractor agreement. A computer-repair business policy usually includes all three. Don’t have one yet? You can still apply.

Usage-based coverage isn’t available. If TechDashers offers it later, it will be optional and we’ll let you know.

Independent contractor.

If approved, you work as a 1099 contractor. You are responsible for your own taxes, tools, and the quality of the work.

ID check and background screening.

You verify your identity with a government-issued photo ID and a selfie through Stripe, then complete a background screening. TechDashers arranges and pays for both. ID images stay with Stripe; TechDashers sees the result. A verified ID and a clear result are required before approval, and are used only to decide access.

Contractor agreement.

Before approval you sign the TechDashers Independent Contractor Agreement in the app, and upload your insurance.

Monitored technical assessment.

Before approval you take an online technical assessment on a desktop or laptop with a webcam. While you take it, TechDashers photographs your webcam and your screen at intervals. No audio is recorded and no facial recognition is used. Only TechDashers staff review the images, and they are deleted after 90 days.

Insurance.

Before any TechDash, you must have your own business liability policy on file (general liability, errors and omissions, and cyber coverage, as the contractor agreement requires), and keep it current. If you don’t have one yet, TechDashers will recommend coverage (roughly $20–40 a month). TechDashers usage-based coverage is not available; if it’s offered later, it will be optional. On-site visits also require automobile insurance on file.

Work stays on the platform.

TechDashers protections, such as the Service Guarantee and any future platform coverage, apply only to TechDashes booked and completed in the app. Off-platform work isn’t covered by them.

Pay.

You receive 80% of the eligible service amount. Tips are yours in full. TechDashers keeps a 20% platform fee. After a job closes, payment waits 48 hours, then goes to Stripe. You complete Stripe Connect after approval, in your own name.

Customer data.

You keep customer data and hardware contents confidential, and you do not keep files or passwords beyond what that repair requires. Hardware disposal follows NIST 800-88.
